My fandom birthday!

It's just occurred to me that it's nearly a year since I discovered fanfiction!!! I found
magnus_leo (somehow), I found LJ, I found slash.
I literally can't believe it's been a year, but it must have been, because I know I found fanfic during GCSE revision (ahem). It seems so much shorter than that! I still feel like such a newbie. Probably partly because I've only started writing in recent months - I've been quite a shadowy slasher. I'm trying to be better, though. Especially with comments. I've become quite astonishingly verbose in some of my comments, it's frightening.
Looking at when my muck-up day was, my fandom bday is Tuesday next week. I intend to celebrate. I'm not sure how yet, but I'll figure it out. :d
Fandom really has enriched my life. I've always loved reading, I always wanted to write. This is such a brilliant way to read great stories, to really connect with authors who in other cases I would simply admire from afar. Fandom proves that having actual community spirit on the net is totally possible and great. I often actually feel like I know what's going on in people's lives; rather than just reading a story and enjoying it, I get to see the process, from "oh FUCK I just got bit by this quidditch-accident bunny and I've got two weeks till my spring_smut entry has to be in!" to "I did it and I love it; thank you x for betaing". So much cooler than just seeing the finished product, however amazing that may be.
I hear about flames and shipping wars and wank - but so far I've only seen appreciation and help and politeness. And of course lots of fun and fluff and hysteria and funny shit and sobbing over angst and RL success or pain and drunkenness and lots and lots of porn! Which is what we're all here for, in the end. HOT GAY KINKY MONKEY SEX.
Love to you all!!!
