So I finally got down to the alphabet meme! Many moons ago, I asked for you guys to give me topics to talk about – one topic per letter of the alphabet. You did so, and here are my replies:

Avocados – I don’t like them, although I wish I did – apparently they have all sorts of wonderful vitamins. The thought of them still makes me smile, though. Avocados make me think of Youngest Sister, who had a massive phase of eating them every day when she was small. (She’s always been like that; the avocados were at least healthier than the eighteen months she spent eating Madeira cake for breakfast.) They also, of course, make me think of the marvellous [personal profile] pushdragon.

BDSM – is my favourite acronym. Any acronym that folds three others (bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, sadism/masochism) into itself is all right by me.

Okay, actual kink mention... erm, I’m going to use Fetlife more and get involved in the Norwich scene. Promise. Although I’m kind of nervous how it’ll turn out; a vanilla friend, because he is sweet, said he wants to go with me. Only he went to one before (with a friend of his who’s a massive creeper) and said he got all worried about this woman who was crying while being whipped.

...

Canon – is a nebulous concept. D’you guys consider JKR’s interviews ‘canon’? I don’t. I like the term ‘apocrypha’ for them, actually (although I’m a post-structuralist type and don’t think the author is God! /geekjokes). I’m glad she hasn’t done any in a while: it bothers me when authors do that, go on and fill in the gaps in her world. It strikes me as an attempt to control our interpretation, which is both hopeless and silly.

Dentists – Don’t scare me. Still, it is a very helpless position, being in a dentists’ chair – the whole tipping-you-back-electronically thing! Hmm. Somebody should write a dentist’s office variant on the whole medical!kink thing.

DRACO: Mwahaha, laugh that I became a dentist, will you Potter? *wields scalpel*
HARRY: The mad glint in your eye is strangely attractive.

Eliza Dushku – is so, so hot. I wish she wasn’t so thin these days, because I think she was much hotter before. But she’s still gorgeous and a cracking actress.

Fred and George – are some of my least favourite characters in canon. In a big family, being twins probably gave them power in the Weasley dynamic (which is why they’re such a double act). It doesn’t seem to have ever occurred to them to stop clubbing together to hurt other people. What they do to Montague is, for me, the crowning example of the Gryffindors’ least attractive trait: You’re taking house points! You’re the enemy! Since you’re the enemy, I can do something that may kill you and it’s okay!

GRRRRR. Self-righteous little twits. Jesters are meant to make fun of the king, not hiss at first-years.

Gags – are utterly fantastic! Such a kink of mine. Ball-gags are probably my favourite, but butterflies and rings have their places in my heart. Also have a soft spot for a bottom being gagged with their own frilly knickers during sex. :)

Harry/Draco – is still my OTP. I’m not good at the OTP concept; I read and write lots of other pairings, including, f’rinstance, Harry/Pansy and Draco/Ron. Still, I love it to pieces. For really geeky reasons, too. I think it’s fucking hot, and there’s a huge breadth of stuff you can do with it – but the reason I said ‘oh yes’ to myself when I found it is that I like it when literary doubles have sex.

Incest – is not my kink. It doesn’t squick me, so I keep reading it every so often, but I very rarely find it sexy. So far the only cesty pairings I really enjoy are Sirius/Regulus, combos of the Black sisters, and Bellatrix/Draco (which is hot for reasons entirely separate from their blood relationship). Once again, my literary instincts are clearly there: I have such a thing for Gothic lit, and the Blacks are so very Gothic. Incestuous relationships between the pale, mad inbred last remnants of the dying House of Black are just so right. :)

Kleptomania – I shoplifted from Primark a week or two ago, mostly because I was bored and resented the fact that I was there. Primark’s an immoral company, and the lights in there give me a headache.

LOKIFAN: I know I shouldn’t have, but I don’t really feel guilty. Primark is an evil machine.
MISS GODFREY: I know, but the evil machine still cries when you steal from it.
LOKIFAN: When the evil machine cries, I point and laugh.

Love – is simultaneously obligation and lack of obligation. Love is all about choosing to go the extra mile, I think; the extra things you do for somebody because you love them, the things nobody could say you had a duty to do. But when it comes to families, especially, I think love can be about duty; and not in a negative way. It’s about making the decision that the relationship is worth salvaging, over and over, until it is.

I don’t know; this is just what comes to mind when I’m about to go back and be with the family, I expect. Especially since – and this might be terrible to admit – I love my sisters in a completely different, and probably more powerful, way than I love my parents. That might change as my parents age, because I love my sisters so fiercely partly because I’m their big sister, I expect. But it’s also about them being my contemporaries, who’ve been there every step of the way.

Malfoys – How fitting that they come up just after I talked about love and family obligations! I do love the Malfoys. I was so pleased that the sincere love between Lucius and Narcissa was shown as something they clung to, in order to get through. Both because I believe love can be redemptive and because I think it can make us small-minded and selfish, I love stories with selfish villains who still have their few, specific people they adore.

No need to talk – If Umbidge didn’t grate on me in every possible way, I’d write a fic where she gags Harry and continues the oh-so-canon sadist’s detentions. Actually, ‘no need to talk’ would be a great title for a OotP-set fic about Hermione that deals with some of the parallels between her and Umbridge.

Origami – features in White Collar, my new fandom, quite a bit. Neal uses it to flirt with a fence named Alex, by leaving paper flowers in wallets she’s about to steal. Which is very suave, but nowhere near as adorable as film!Draco’s use of paper swans. HE THREATENS PEOPLE WITH ORIGAMI. *dies of cute*

Parseltongue – Parselsmut’s a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. One of these days, though, I want to write fic where Harry uses Parseltongue while he’s having sex with Draco in order to scare him – because it reminds Draco of Voldemort, and brings all that terror and helplessness back. :D I do love me a dark!Harry.

Rimming – is hot. I think we slashers tend to see it more as the equivalent of a man eating a woman out than the equivalent of a blowjob (although obv it’s not the equivalent of either but a thing in itself, which I think people get, but go with me here. There’s smut at the end of this point). Y’know, it makes the receiver vulnerable, it’s an intimate thing as well as being mind-blowingly hot. But men (from what I can tell, particularly from a couple of smutty story sites that are overwhelmingly populated by gay men) see it as a service given. I’d like to see somebody write it that way – maybe dom!Harry makes Draco rim him, and Draco’s really embarrassed, and Harry grabs him by the hair and –

*coughs* Onto the next letter!

Spike/Angel – is, like Harry/Draco, a mythical-feeling pairing with lots of delicious literary-doubling to play with. I do love it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite do it for me the way H/D does. When I’m in the mood for falling-in-love, it can work, but not necessarily. And with kink… well, yeah, but with non/dub-con I just get annoyed and sad because Spike deserves better from Angel. I’d kind of prefer it to be Giles or Wesley beating him!

But Angelus/William, way back when, gives me tingles.

Tom Felton – usually I take little to no interest in the actors, but that’s changing cos of the flist’s interest. He seems adorable.

Writing – is wonderful. Everyone should be literate. I give money to UNICEF and a literacy charity once a month due to this conviction. Used to be Amnesty in the place of UNICEF, but I decided writing letters for Amnesty and sending £6.10 a month to UNICEF was better for the world. Also, it costs 61p to vaccinate for most major child-killers, so I get to know ten kids are being vaccinated a month off my donation. *\o/*

XXX – the reason X is unknown is cos he’s a kinky little fucker, and the other letters get embarrassed. They feel X is sordid, so they farm him out to maths and get down to the serious business of language themselves. You see, only Y can really control X. He sticks X on the frame that was just made for his body, and they expand their equation like bunnies.

…I don't know.

Y Animagus fic can be totally hot – Because you can have fic with big, powerful animals that overwhelm our ickle wizards, which is fun. And you can also have fic where subs willingly transform themselves into a form that’s helpless in the hands of humans, so they simply have to wait to be released. (Option 2B: have humans capture the ickle!Animagus, keep them captured, and release them only so they can be forced into sex. You know, whatever works.)

It’s taken me SO LONG to finish this meme, but it was really fun in the end!

A- I agree. Avocados are gross. Everyone in my fam loves 'em, though.
B- It really is an awesome acronym. I'm not very interested in the kink, though. I get really turned off by absolute submission [intense D/s is almost a squick of mine], severe rough play [S/M], and I'm not just into Bondage. Discipline is fine as long as it's not severe.
C- Canon are facts that happen in the original production of any series. 'Tis all.
D- Dentists are sadists. =p
E- Love her, too <3 I loved Faith in Buffy.
F- I have a very love/hate relationship with them. While they're very amusing, they're also very mean. I'm really surprised they didn't end up in Slytherin. Their cruel pranks, underhanded tricks, and overall sneakiness is enough to have them fit in there just fine.
G- Not my thing. It kind of falls into that BDSM category. While it can be sexy... to a point... there's something about being so vulnerable that just makes me uneasy. It's hilarious how I'm not into this stuff but non-con and rape-fics are totally up my ally.
H- Ditto <3
I- Love <3 Particularly Malfoycest. I've been dying to read a nice Lucius/Narcissa/Draco/Scorpius fic ;)
J- You missed it D=
K- I hate stealing.
L- As I've never been in love, I really don't have much to say. I believe in it, but I think it's something that has to be worked at to grow in any way. "Love at first sight" doesn't exist in my realm of reality, and people who say they love someone within a week or two of dating them annoy the hell out of me.
M- Agreed.
N- HEH.
o- Origami is hard. I LOVE White Collar <3
P- Yes. So yummy.
R- Yes!
S- Triple yes <3 Spike/Angel is guh. I loved Buffy/Angel, and after a while I even got used to Buffy/Spike, but Angel/Spike does wicked things to my slash-loving mind.
T- I really don't pay much mind to celebrities myself, but I adore Tom (and Dan, too <3)
W- I feel the same as you. I wish I were a better writer, though.
X- O.O"
Z- Hee. LOL.

Interesting Meme!

Absolute submission doesn't really do it for me, either. It can be hot, but I much prefer bratty subs.

I LOVE Faith so much. So, so much.

*nodnod* It probably doesn't help that the twins aren't my kind of comedy - I prefer Harry or Snape's sarcasm to their style - so I can't even focus on the comedy instead of the mean.

Well, non-con means you're vulnerable but you're not INTENTIONALLY so, which is a big emotional difference. I'm not all that surprised.

I LOVE White Collar

Me too! I shall soon be posting some squee and a little bit of smut to say so. :)

It was a fun meme to do, even if the flist gave me some weird ones!

Have you ever read this online series (slash novels) "Shadow of the Templar"?? *Squee* It's total awesomeness! It also features an art thief and an FBI agent. It's really very well written and the characters are all quirky and interesting and *guh* So good.

=D

Neal is soooo sexy! I live in NY so months before the show started airing there were posters of it all around the city. I began watching it b/c I thought Neal was hot (and also because it sounded interesting, but it was mostly because Neal was hot ;D), but he's even cuter in the show! I'd love to see some WC stuff from you! <33

Ooh! No I haven't. *notes down rec*

I didn't know you lived in New York! Cool.

Neal is soo hot, in a charmingly pretty-boy way. I love Peter, too - the crooked little smile! - and El's gorgeous.

*coughs* Although actually, the character to get the strongest sexual reaction from me is June. IDEK.

Yeah =p

And yeah, Peter's smile is way cute. I love when he and Neal are together. They're hilarious as a set.

And yeah, Elizabeth is really pretty. She's spunky, and I like that.

And..um.... *coughs*...ah...June? O.O"

She's really pretty, but I definitely don't have the same response from her. To each his own, though =]
