What's another word for 'gleaming'?

Writing-related question, darling flist: have any of you ever been on a hot air balloon ride? What was it like? Did you take off smoothly and was the ride bumpy? Was the wind noisy?

I've never been in a balloon, but I've been paragliding, and the one thing I really noticed, and then felt stupid for not having thought about before, was that the wind wasn't noisy. In fact there was no wind, because you were travelling with it, not against it.

Paragliding sounds fun. I don't know if balloons go with the wind as such, but this is an excuse to not include roaring winds, so yay!
