Nabbed this off [livejournal.com profile] ginger_veela, since I share her need for a distraction.

Pick any character from the Harry Potter, BTVS/Angel, Doctor Who/Torchwood, White Collar, or Misfits universes and I'll answer the following questions:

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

I like her! She's a little mean to Hermione at times, she's involved with the Skeeter scam in GoF, she cares for Draco a lot and maybe loves him - we don't see much of her, and what we do see isn't all great, but it's kind of classic-teenager-cute. And I love her in DH. I think her standing up and saying "let's send Potter out there" is great. She has no reason to think Harry can defeat Voldemort, which means to her, it's a choice between sending Harry out there so he dies, or keeping Harry there until Voldemort invades and Harry dies along with everyone else. I actually think she makes the moral judgement although I don't judge the others - they love Harry, or they want to believe he can save them. And she does it publically, even though the rest of the school aims their wands at her. GOOD FOR YOU, PANSY.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Nope. She's one of Draco's crowd, a Slytherin female leader, a voice against Harry - she has her roles but she's far from crucial.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

I don't really 'relate' to characters in the usual way, generally. But I guess so.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

LOVE the fandom. Quite like the source material.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

LOADS, lol. Pansy/Ginny is fun and sparky - they have a lot of second-hand enemities with nothing personally between them, and they're both hot and popular and fun-loving. Pansy/Hermione can be a lot of fun too.

Pansy/Harry is interesting in light of DH - choosing the greater good is something Harry understands, sacrificing someone else isn't, so I find their possible interactions interesting whether romantic/sexual or not.

I like Pansy/Draco - two old friends who know each other well, and she loved him, and they attract each other and like each other. I don't think I'd want to read it as True Love but I think they're very cute as each other's firsts.

But my favourite is Pansy/Ron. It's a hot pairing and they're both used to being second-best but they could be each other's first choices, and I can see them being far more long-term compatible than Ron/Hermione.

Pansy is basically my little black dress, lol. She goes with everything. I've read her with Scorpius, Snape, Astoria, Narcissa and Lucius too :D

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

We would know more!

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

If she had the dark-hair-dark-eyes-silk-dress-badass thing she usually does in fanon, she would be precisely my type. I have a pretty big thing for dark-eyed, dark-haired women. So I would be massively attracted to her.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

We don't know enough about her for her to be one of my all time favourites, but she's absolutely in my top ten to read and write about.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

Neither, really... I guess I'd hype her up as a character I interpret as not being a Harry fan while also not being the soul of evil?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Portions of it. She's popular with femmeslash fans, certainly. Draco marrying another seems to have dulled the hatred of a lot of H/D fans, so she gets a fanon characterisation as a rich-bitch and Draco's best mate which is often fun to read/write. She's traditionally been bashed a lot but I think on the whole people like her :)

Nice answers :) I confess I began to like Pansy thanks to a friend of mine, because Pansy was her favourite character and I thought I could try to figure why :) Nowadays I like Pansy quite a lot.

I think you capture quite well Pansy's motivations and train of thought in her Great Hall moment in DH, though I can't help having mixed feelings about her there.

But my favourite is Pansy/Ron. It's a hot pairing and they're both used to being second-best but they could be each other's first choices, and I can see them being far more long-term compatible than Ron/Hermione.

Fandom wise, I noticed that I normally tend to write Pansy/Hermione, but I also love a good Ron/Pansy. I agree with you that they'd be more compatible than Ron/Hermione. I can easily see Ron and Hermione drifting apart after the war, once the storm settles into a normal calm.

x-x

I might try to steal this meme, though... I'm kinda lacking motivation after the response to my last one (for which I was so curious).

Yeah, can be a good reason... though I'm currently hating the fact that another friend is making me like Obi-Wan, from Star Wars. LOL. Maybe it has more to do with the fact that I play him in our RP, though :P

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

I really like him :D He always feels inferior, and the plot seems to agree with him, which is always endearing. I hate that when he gets made prefect, his celebratory dinner is full of people assuring Harry that it's cooler not be one, and that when he gets to be the Quidditch hero neither of his best friends are at the match. He's funny and he tries hard, and he leaves and returns and therefore actually has a bit of a character arc in DH. I love that with Quidditch he's not a great natural talent like Harry or Ginny; he has to train and work for it. Also, he often points it out when things are stupid. I like that.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Absolutely!

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

Yes, as much as I ever relate/identify.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

LOVE the fandom, quite like the source material.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I ship him with Draco :D I BET YOU'RE SHOCKED. I like that they're both so similar - purebloods, Quidditch fans/players, grudge-holders, prefects, enormously important family lives, and with inferiority complexes a mile wide - while also having different lives. I like playing with the class differences. I like the possibilities for interesting power dynamics. And I love that characters used to feeling second-best to Harry and Hermione can find and choose each other :D

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Er. Make him less inclined to use social power against Hermione in earlier books?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

I think we'd probably get on okay, but I'd find his sport talk boring and he'd get enough book talk elsewhere.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Of Harry Potter characters? Absolutely :D

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

I'd warn people who like him of my answer below!

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase

I think a lot of people dislike him, but more people like him while not finding him interesting. It makes me sad to see him automatically cast as antagonist or just less-good-than-Hermione in H/D fic.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

Funny, loyal, BAMF, love's bitch. He has a massive inferiority complex and identity crises everywhere and those things are v likely to make me love. I like that he's both a poet and a fighter, unashamedly submissive (with a bit of switch), and that he takes care of Dawn because he promised Buffy. Also, it makes my heart hurt that the Scoobies didn't support him as he tried to get better. Morally or otherwise. His redemption arc is awesome.

His ability to regenerate himself and adapt in response to those around him is fascinating and great too.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

HOW ABOUT YES.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

He does grip me emotionally, although, you know, less so than some of the fandom because I don't love him with every cell of my body :)

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

Like it a lot, and love the source material madly.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

Buffy and Angel :D I think Giles/Spike kinkfic is totally hot, and I find the Spike/Dawn friendship awesome and endearing, and Spike and Faith hanging out is a lot of fun, but it's his relationships with Buffy and Angel I find most interesting. They're also the ones I ship him with :D His status as Angel's shadow-version, old enemy, old friend, old partner, old lover is so interesting. I love that they're enemies who were once friends and the weight of history in their interactions. I love their shared past and that Spike always wants to be good enough and Angel is so desperate to 'know' he's better than Spike. I love that they connect and understand and are eternal and the sense that they'll always find each other again.

And I like Buffy/Spike for a lot of the same reasons :D

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

I would make him pronounce arse ARSE.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

We'd probably get on okay. We could talk about England.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Not really, but only in the sense that I love most of the characrers. He'd be in the top ten, but my love for Faith and Giles and Buffy and Riley and Tara and Kendra and Dawn, it is immense!

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

I'd say "you like Spike? You wanna try fandom? Well, have fun! I hope you enjoy slavefic." SLAVEFIC AND RAPEFIC AND JUST GENERAL TORMENTING OF SPIKE, IT'S EVERYWHERE.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

ahahahahaahaAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHheheheehehe*snort*AHAHAHAHAHA.

*beams* Thank you! He is so compelling. I'm watching S6 right now with my housemates, and he is naked a lot.

I still largely react the way I did at fourteen, though, which is before I knew I was bi: "move your naked torso out of the way, Marsters, I'm trying to look at Buffy's hair."

AGREED. FAITH IS ALL THE HOT. *faints* BREASTS AND EYES AND LIPS AND HAIR AND BREASTS...

Hahaha. Yeah, I don't like him so much in s7 until near the end. I think it's partly because I don't like that the writers squished a lot of the moral ambiguity by ensouling him. Also, yes, he gets a bit of S3-Angel syndrome. Lots of shirtless sadface.

But I'm not a s7 fan in general, really.

I know, I forget s7 as well - me and my housemate Violet, both huge Buffy fans, were saying we had no memory of what happens!

I am a fan of the s6 angst :D What's your favourite series? Mine is probably 3 or 5... Faith is my favourite character ever and there are so many fantastic individual episodes, and 5 is fun and beautifully constructed. I am also one of those unusual people who really enjoys s4 despite its fails :)

From: [identity profile] brinimc.livejournal.com
Oh my god, yes! So many times I just expected them to kiss or something!

I honestly can't remember what happened in 7 except for the super vicious vamp, Buffy's "we all could die" speeches and the end. Eek.

Ooo, that is hard. Cause the second half of 2 is so bomb, with Angelus! I love that storyline, too bad it was only half a season. I agree though that 3 was one of the best, if not the best. It had Buffy, Faith and Angel and that episode where he pretends to be Angelus again was awesome! And the mayor was a great villian.

S5 makes me cry so hard. Everytime. Whenever she makes that speech to Dawn. Guh.

S6 was just annoying cause of the crap-tastic villians and it was the beginning of Buffy (the character) getting on my nerves. S7 finished that off!

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

I like him a lot! I like that he's clever and cultured and doesn't fall into the Thick Copper cliche; I like that he loves his wife and puts a lot of work into their marriage; I like that he believes in the rules, although his breaking and bending of them is not so great. I love that he wants to help Neal break out of the steal-get-caught-get-jailed-or-shot cycle and that he puts all this work in, and that he's never jealous of what Neal can do :D

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Obviously

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

He grips me emotionally, most powerfully when it comes to his relationship with El, but I don't relate to him at all :)

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

It's new, but it's a lot of fun - both fandom and source material :)

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

OT3 FOREVER! I like Peter and El together as well but the 0T3 is awesome. I love how they all balance each other and that all three have very specific, good relationships with the other two. Oh, and Peter & Diana's friendship is great.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

The whole thing with being okay with Keller getting hurt by his fellow prisoners. That was awful, as well as striking me as 00C for Peter.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

I suspect if we met it would be in the context of my studenty idealism, so we would probably not get on at all.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Probably not, actually. I like him a lot but El and Diana and June and Jones are my favourites, except for how ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE MY FAVOURITE.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

Hype! :D If they hadn't seen the programme I would emphasise him on a horse.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Absolutely!

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

I like her; she's introduced as a bookworm, and younger sister to the Slayer. Her sister really is more special, and that sucks. She is totally messed up all through series six and nobody realises except Giles and Tara, who both leave (and Tara has to, after what Willow does). Everybody leaves her! :( I like how she develops: from the girl with a crush on Spike, utterly intrigued by him, to the girl who refuses to be friends with someone who tried to rape her sister. From the girl who feels perpetually left out and incompetent to the Watcher-in-training and HBIC of s7. She deals far more elegantly than Xander with being dismissed by the narrative.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

She's the McGuffin in s5, but never beyond that.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

I definitely feel for her a lot, even if I don't relate to her exactly.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

Like the fandom, love the source material :)

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I think her relationship with Spike is interesting - how she thinks he's great and actually sees him pretty clearly despite the hero-worship/crush, how he appoints himself her white knight, how they connect and comfort each other as the not-Scoobs who loved her best after Buffy's death, how Buffy and the affair keeps them apart then (and why they don't fight for each other), and how she chooses Buffy over him unequivocally. Which I think is great :) I missed their friendship, but I like that she didn't think the soul thing mattered that much and therefore won't forgive his souled self for older sins.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Nope; I like it when she's whiny and bitchy to Buffy. I'd love to see her relationship with Faith back in the day.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

She's a bookworm type, gets up to naughty things, and she's very hot :) I reckon we'd get on.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Yep! In my top five, anyway.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

I'd tell them she gets better :)

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Nope! Fans initially hated her for being whiny, and there's still not much in the way of fanworks about her - not even meta.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

I love him to pieces; he's my favourite character in HP. I love him right at the start, overconfident and telling tall stories about helicopters and wanting to see the dragon and wanting to be special. Tiny Draco, his daddy telling him he’s not good enough, just breaks my heart. And I love Draco overacting with his Terrible Hippogriff Injury and Snape playing along cracks me up - and when he’s fourteen and fighting his AWFUL NEMESIS with badges and tabloid journalism and dressing like a vicar? ♥ ♥ ♥ And oh, his rage when Harry ‘gets his father jailed’, and his trying so hard all through HBP, all alone and frightened and Potter almost killed him and having to save his parents and being clever enough to find the solution, because he’s a lateral thinker and good with practical spells, and his worn-down fear in DH and trying to stop anyone from being hurt...

OH DRACO DARLING LET ME HOLD YOU

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Definitely. *strokes HBP*

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

ALL THE FEELINGS. I don’t relate to him exactly, but I feel for him.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

LOVE the fandom; quite like the source material.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

AHAHAHA. I ship him with Harry, Ron, and Snape, plus Neville and Pansy a bit. I'll also read him with any Weasley boy. I really like relationships between characters who are parallels in some way, and JKR loves to set those up, which is very satisfying :)

I like that he and Harry are opposites but parallels; that they’re so passionate about each other but know so little about each other; the capacity for both to grow from being around each other; also, the kinky possibilities. I like that Ron and Draco

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Yes! Well, okay, this is a wish for the whole last book, actually. I wish Harry had had to ask Draco for the Elder Wand. Because that would've actually got to the supposed 'choices' theme, the idea that things weren't going to Dumbledore & Voldemort's plans any more. Plus it would've been cool thematically to see Voldemort yell at Draco to give him the Elder Wand, Draco must know to whom he owed his loyalty!

And Draco would say yes, he did, and throw the wand at Harry, and it'd be a perfect Seeker-sympatico moment of Harry catching it :)

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

I'm a filthy Muggle, so he would probably be rude, and I would be scared he'd hex me and pissed off. I'm thinking no :)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Absolutely an all-time favourite :D

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

LOVE HER. I love that there's no romantic element between her and the Doctor and I love that she's so funny (omg the mining through the office windows!) and belligerent in her own defence. I like how she so clearly develops as she travels with the Doctor and her horizon expands. Her awful mother and gentle relationship with her awesome granddad make me love her even more.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

I don't like her, exactly, but she's fascinating and Juliet Landau is compelling to watch. I love the way she and Spike dance together, that they know each other so well and move in sync. I like her focus on family and her Mad Seer status and how she's so very competent and full of survival instinct despite being forever Angelus' victim.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Definitely - both in herself and as a driver for Angel and Spike *mild eyeroll*

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

LOL. Er, not so much. Drusilla as muse and poem and creator for Spike, and Drusilla as eternal victim for Angel, are emotionally gripping.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

Love the fandom, love the source material :)

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I ship her with Spike - their relationship is great and they'll always come back to each other. Any member of the Fanged Four, really - Darla/Dru is fucking awesome.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

I'd have had Dru as herself rather than the first come back in s7.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

She would eat me, which would make me dislike her.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Nah - competition's too stiff :)

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

Hype her up!

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

...I don't think so? It's hard to tell, but she can't be all that popular because for all I hear about Spike Dru doesn't feature that much :) Except for the rare bit of AWESOME META

yes yes yes Spike'n'Dru. Really, I don't know what it is with this 'verse, but it's all about the villains in love for me. Spike/Dru, Angel/Darla top two favorite pairings, and ooooh Angel/Spike, Darla/Dru (my girls! togetha!)....

She would eat me, which would make me dislike her.

hee!

WANT MOAR DRU LOVE, FANDOM. MAKE IT SO. BE. IN ME. *sways*

:D I am often ALL ABOUT VILLAINS IN LOVE :D Evil characters who have really passionate relationships with others please me so much. And redeemed characters who can't off evil characters because they loved them once? OMG MY ID IS SO HAPPY WHEN ANGEL TELLS DRU TO LEAVE! WHEN BUFFY KNOWS DRU IS THE WAY TO SPIKE! WHEN SPIKE HELPS BUFFY FOR DRU!

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

Desperate for approval, intelligent, methodical, has impulse control issues but only around very specific things, loves art and is an artist himself, likes beating things and knowing he's won, likes beauty and prestige and specialness. Likely had a childhood involving neglect of some kind, likely lying through his teeth about his childhood to Peter, and wants in on the El and Peter thing like he wants oxygen.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

I WOULD SAY SO YES

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

I think he grips others more? But I do feel for him.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

It's new and a little silly but I like it - both fandom and source material :)

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

OT3 OT3 OT3 FOREVER. IT IS SEXY AND BEAUTIFUL AND CUDDLY.

I like his relationship with Alex, too; I love ex-lovers interacting, especially ones with lots of chemistry who're too much themselves for it to work. The thing with Sara is not doing it for me but I don't hate it... just bored.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

He wouldn't have interrupted Sara and Alex talking in the finale. Women talking to each other! In White Collar! About their jobs! A beautiful moment cut tragically short.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

No doubt I would find him wonderful and charming and gorgeous, and he would be bothered by my lack of fine art or cash :)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

I like him, but I'm not sure he's a favourite... I mean secretly all the characters are my favourites but El and Diana and June and Jones are MORE my favourites :)

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

Er. Maybe say 'how do you feel about prison rape in fic?'

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Yep! You can tell by all the fic where he's raped, tortured, and/or deathly ill :D

Oh, also - I haven't watched Sherlock! I might well get round to it, since people say it's great. I think I just haven't forgiven Martin Freeman yet for his Arthur Dent.

As a completely random aside, FORGET ARTHUR DENT AND GO WATCH SHERLOCK RIGHT NOW!!

*ahem*

It's hilarious and witty and the relationship between Sherlock and John is fantastic. The first season is only 3 eps but the characters develop enormously. And I spent most of the three episodes shrieking with laughter. This incarnation of Sherlock Holmes *needs* his Watson for emotional stability and to make his every day life *work properly* which is a huge change from most depictions of the characters' dynamic. And Watson needs the craziness that is Sherlock.

Interestingly most of the fandom seems to go with Sherlock-is-the-top-and-in-charge for their fanfic which mystifies me. Yes, Watson spends a LOT of time looking after Sherlock and YES HE GETS SHERLOCK'S PHONE FOR SHERLOCK WHEN IT IS IN SHERLOCK'S OWN POCKET <--*loves that so hard* so I could maybe see a service kink. But Sherlock always seems to be demanding and get-my-phone and I-need-your-attention-RIGHT-NOW when he most wants to make sure that Watson's attention is focused on him, especially when Watson has just finished paying attention to someone else. He revels in Watson's eye rolls. And for someone who frequently calls himself a narcissistic, high functioning sociopath, Sherlock spends an awful lot of time obsessing over Watson's wellbeing, his opinion of Sherlock, and hating on Watson's maybe-girlfriend. (IT IS PETTY, SNIPPY, STUBBORN CANON JEALOUSY AND I EAT IT WITH A SPOON!!) And heaven help you if you even vaguely hit on Sherlock in front of John because Sherlock will be downright vicious. Watson could get his adrenaline fix by becoming a doctor without borders and get shot at in foreign countries. But he genuinely likes Sherlock despite Sherlock's many...quirks. Sherlock decides about five seconds after he meets Watson that he simply can't do without him.

Also the snippy, competitive, all-grudges-will-be-held-forever Sherlock/Mycroft relationship leaves me with tears of laughter. (Seriously, even *thinking* about family gatherings - past and present - with those two both in attendance leaves me smiling.) And Mycroft is *such* a big brother and mama's boy! And his tendency to use John to needle at Sherlock... and Sherlock reacts every single time in his own obscure way even though he has to know better... *glee*

And - And - *flailing arms of enthusiastic if wordless adoration*

*coughs* Also, the mysteries are quite interesting.

*slinks away*

I SEE YOU HAVE FEELINGS :)

If it helps, [personal profile] lizardspots definitely emphasised the dom/top!Watson dynamic when she told me about it a few weeks ago :) As did a White Collar crossover of [personal profile] copperbadge's I read. So I will start from that pov if and when I watch the miniseries!

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, ALL THE LOVE. My favourite character in the verse. Incredibly gorgeous and sexy, of course, and I love the sexy subtext with Buffy. I love that she is so charming and yet can't get past the 'outsider' status in the group; poor, facade-tastic, vulnerable Faith. I like that she's Buffy's shadow-self and darker half, I love that stuff, and how a terrible accident propels her to the dark side. I love her telling Buffy "take what you need" in their shared dream at the end of s3, and the bodyswap is amazing. All self-loathing and yet taking what she needs. The spiral into a near-pyschotic break in LA is just beautifully done, and how Angel helps her and their connection, and "I'd like to make a confession"!!! And Angel coming to visit and Faith being all wryly jokey! And how she breaks out so easily to fight Angelus in s4, and refuses to kill him because she owes him, and beats him anyway. She's horribly underwritten in s7 Buffy but when everyone suggests Faith take over as leader, and Faith says "that is so not what I meant" with that hint of panic - OH DUSHKU SOLD IT.

I'M SORRY I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Yep, in both s3 and s7, although in both more as a reflection of Buffy than anything else. Definitely in s4 of Angel - Faith and Wesley fighting Angelus together, it thrills me so.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

ALL THE FEELINGS SERIOUSLY ALL THE FEELINGS

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

Lots! Love both fandom and source material

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

Buffy! The Chosen Two, parallels yet opposites, both taking what they need from the other to form unique yet unified women, dark and light, vamp and ingenue, both so vulnerable even though they hide it and the only ones who could truly understand OMG OTP FOREVRER.

Also, I think her relationships with Angel and Wesley are cool. When Angel is all "you and me, we're the same" I am just like NO, FALSE, DID YOU KILL SOMEONE BY ACCIDENT AND GET NO SUPPORT? DID SHE MURDER THOUSANDS? THEN NO. But I like their friendship and they have a genuine connection - which is so rare for Angel and they both need so much. And Wesley and Faith, man, I love it. So complex.

I also read a Faith/Dawn preslash set in s7 that was totally amazing a fortnight or so ago.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

She and Spike, chatting and smoking in s7, was awesome. But an extra line or two about, you know, being Buffy's dark half who she has filthy sex with then ignores? That would have thrilled me forever.

Oh, also maybe Faith/Gunn? That would've been awesome.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

We would probably not get on at all. But dancing and fucking girls, you know, we share that interest. So :)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

ALLLLLL THE FEELINGS

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

HER BREASTS MIGHT HYPNOTISE YOU, BEWARE!

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Not really? I mean, people don't seem to hate her but there's a lack of fanworks about her and there's a lot of "I'm not into bad girls." But then there will never be enough for me so I'm biased.

I doubt I have anything to add to all this, but I have to comment b/c FAITH LOVE IS A+

faith dance

OH DUSHKU SOLD IT.

WORD. DUSHKU HATERS TO THE LEFT.

When Angel is all "you and me, we're the same" I am just like NO, FALSE, DID YOU KILL SOMEONE BY ACCIDENT AND GET NO SUPPORT? DID SHE MURDER THOUSANDS? THEN NO.

COSIGNED!

But I like their friendship and they have a genuine connection - which is so rare for Angel and they both need so much.

And Wesley and Faith, man, I love it. So complex.

I just can't get enough of their dynamic, from BtVS to AtS S4. It would be double-awesome just to have Faith and Wes together at all, but their story, oh, so good.

OH GOD THAT SCENE. SHE'S SO GORGEOUS. And the fighting/dancing is such a fantastic encapsulation of her character and how she's breaking down.

I KNOW RIGHT. Especially since, you know, they met and we met them in the aftermath of Angelus, and then it's another Slayer and Watcher having to take him down and the loyalty-pragmatism-morals they both have in different amounts and -

Yes. Awesome.

I would never pass up the chance to pontificate :) See icon.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

The moment he picked up a stick for purposes of swordfighting the Venetian vampire, I was in love :) He's adorable, and I love that he's so happy to just adore Amy and follow her around as long as she appreciates it. And I like that he's not a natural adventurer, but he finds a liking for it as time goes on. And he's brave and devoted and self-sacrificing and generally a sweetheart.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

As Amy's love interest, yes; not really beyond that. Except of course that having more than one companion allows for more complex plots, and I'm pleased as punch to see that dynamic in the TARDIS again.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

He's adorable!

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

Doctor Who fandom is pretty batshit but fun; same goes for the programme :)

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

Amy! I really like their relationship. Also, Amy/Rory/Eleven is awesome and fun.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Can't think of anything. I'm not crazy about waiting-for-you plotlines but I like Rory a lot.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

We'd probably get on, actually. I'm unrepentantly urban but if we actually met, you know, he's sweet and funny and likes loud self-involved types in miniskirts so we'd likely make friends!

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Absolutely :D Well, top five, anyway.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

I would tell them, if they were okay with spoilers, that IT'S OKAY HE WILL COME BACK.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Yeah! He's very cute and unassuming, it works for him.
