Review of my 2010 fic meme
Jan. 20th, 2011 11:17 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I was thinking I’d skip the Review Meme, since it’s been more than two weeks since 2011 began. But it’s useful for my own records, so I’m going to be self-indulgent and do it anyway. Sorry!
Stats:
2010’s wordcount: 107 300
Not bad considering my increased RL activity, but a significant downturn from 2009’s 131 200. It includes ‘real’ posts to LJ and original work as well as fanfic. Also a massive fail in that it’s 294 words a day, where my New Year’s Resolution for 2010 said 500 words a day.
Ah well; at least keeping track of this stuff, and giving myself a target, it reminds me that writing being really fun doesn’t make it a bad indulgence you should ignore in favour of your friends, and that writing being really hard doesn’t make it a chore you should ignore in favour of your friends.
Favorite story this year: It’s gotta be Red, Blue, Green, Yellow: Spanking In Four Part(ie)s. Politics, bewildered!Draco and my favourite kink in the world. :)
Best story this year: Ummm. I’m really not sure but I’m going with What Grown-Ups Do, because I get nervous about my femmeslash and it was a kink I’d not written before but it seemed to work out.
Most underappreciated by the universe: Juvenile Delinquency, which got me seven Least Favourites in the
dmpp_ldws, hands down.
Most fun story: So many possibilities, but probably Positive Reinforcement, in which Ron puts a plug in Draco and has it vibrate to jpop, then denies him orgasm until Draco says jpop is good music.
Sexiest story: Hi, Malfoy, which is likely my sexiest story of 2010 and will still never be as hot as the art that inspired it.
New fandom/pairing/genre/kink: SO MANY NEW PAIRINGS. I wrote some Pansy/Draco ficlets, starting with Shiny Things, and a thousand words of AS/S fic for
son_of_darkness: If It Makes You Feel Good (It Makes Me Feel All Right). There were four bits of Charlie/Tonks of varying sizes, and my first Neville/Draco in Help.
Plus a bunch of one-offs:
Minerva/Xiomara Hooch in Cartography
Pansy/Ginny in Finding The Way
Parvati/Astoria in Pearls Don’t Bring Tears
Cho/Marietta in Best Friends
Fleur/Cho in French Kissing
Martha/Tosh in Glasses
Ginny/Neville in Boudicca
Both Pansy/Luna and Pansy/Neville in Sick
Seamus/Pansy in Fortune Favours The Brave
Unrequited Harry/Pansy Guilty
Hermione/Draco in My Mistake
Draco/Luna in Our Fathers’ Sins and Dizzy
Dean/Luna in Luna Triumphant
Both Remus/Sirius and Remus/Regulus in Negative Space
Rabastan/Draco in Blade and Waiting
Charlie/Draco in Something New
Charlie/Harry in Fucking Like The World’s About To End
Harry/Neal – an HP/White Collar crossover, ffs – in Taking It From The Top
Then there was The One With Ickle Draco Wanking To The Weasley And Patil Twins, which was SO FUN. If strange.
Fandom/pairing/genre/kink you never thought you’d write: Narcissa/Kingsley, which I wrote twice: Mrs Malfoy’s Entertainment and Love Letter.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you”: Um. Likely Something Special, which is vampire!Harry/Draco non-con. I found writing it very tough going, plus it has the incredibly gross thing about how Draco feels Harry harden inside him and warm up, due to Harry’s sucking of his blood.
And for a certain value of ‘wrong’, Open On Sunday.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: What I Owe You, a couple of drabbles looking at the shift in the Dawn/Spike relationship between s5 and s7. It basically made me properly accept that it wasn’t writerly incompetence that caused the lack of s7 Dawn/Spike interactions: Dawn never forgives Spike for his attempted rape, and that is a great thing. Sisterly bonds FTW!
In HP – Closure didn’t exactly shift my perceptions, but that’s because I hadn’t thought about an adult Harry and Dudley encountering each other before. But it is exactly what I think would happen in canon, which is quite unusual for me: Dudley feeling guilty and wanting to be friendly, wanting to be friends, and not quite understanding how his family damaged Harry; and Harry not hating Dudley but refusing to ever be around a Dursley again, because he’s an adult and independent and people love him, and he can’t go back, even in a way that logically poses no threat.
Hardest story to write: It’s got to be my Tonks fic, Colour Wheel. That thing was an absolute beast to write, especially since I was trying to keep it under 1k at the mods’ request.
Easiest story to write: Family and Friends, a ficlet from Pansy’s POV on Draco and his love for Harry. I still like this one.
Biggest disappointment: Finding The Way -- a pretty sad first attempt at an awesome pairing (Pansy/Ginny).
Biggest surprise: The Seven Weasleys, a porny drabble set I wrote in an hour, in which Tonks works her way through all seven Weasleys. “One was too reliable, and one was too overseas, and one was too fucked-up, and two were too much to handle, and one was too in love with another. And one was just right.”
Also Loss, which is a very weird bit of ghost!Cedric gen.
Story with single sweetest moment: Er... well Naked is painfully cute Ron/Draco, and I think this is a pretty sweet moment:
Ron’s hair smelled fucking fantastic. Draco traced the muscles of his back with one hand and grinned up at the ceiling. I’m having sex with him, he told it. He’s all mine. I am the greatest at everything.
The story that made you cry: My own fic’s never made me cry yet; but Trapped is incredibly depressing for 500 words, since it has a maimed-by-the-Ministry!Draco who thinks Harry doesn’t love him any more and a Harry who’s heartbroken for his Draco.
Story I want remembered: I really don’t know; so I’m going to go with On The Pull, because I think dom!Ron/Draco blowjob porn is a good solution to the whole issue of Draco’s receding hairline. I hope to help fandom recover from the crushing blow of that line in the Epilogue That Cannot Be Named.
