Guess who has finally watched all of Merlin series 2 did you guess me if not you were wrong HUZZAH!
:( Oh Merlin.
YAY GWEN! Plus we get to see her being heroic for a very specific reason that totally works and YAY!
Vaguely annoying as the Arthur/Gwen intermittent-yet-burning thing is, Gaius smiling at them all fondly makes me like that scene. GAIUS IS MY HOMEBOY, OKAY?
OH ARTHUR. ALL CALM YET UNMOVING. ♥__♥
Lame. Lame. LAAAAME. Come on, bringing in Merlin’s father with no foreshadowing just because it’s the series finale? When there was already an awesome villain and all Merlin’s chickens coming home to roost? Silly. Particularly since I really liked that Merlin’s father never came up: partly because a lack of daddy issues is a rare and refreshing thing in a male protagonist and partly because Merlin traditionally doesn’t have a father.
Well, he does: but he’s an incubus.
Hmm... it occurs to me that there must be loads of Merlin fic - pre-this episode, anyway - where Merlin’s half incubus and in need of some sexual healing :) *makes note to search it out*
Aww. The boys being all scared of the rough’n’ready men around them is adorable.
ARTHUR: *is shirtless*
MERLIN: *checks him out from the corner of his eye*
ARTHUR: What’s up? You’re being weird.
MERLIN: Nothing’s - up.
ARTHUR: Tell me. I know I’m a prince, and we can never marry, but -
TWINKLY INTIMATE MUSIC: *twinkles*
ARTHUR: You, me, an inn, no one knows who we are...
MERLIN: *turns his back*
FANGIRLS: Ohhhhhh...
Heh. The writers are getting creative with ways-to-knock-Arthur-out-so-Merlin-can-get-on-with-things :)
I am less filled with antipathy than before to the whole daddy plotline... but my favourite part of this so far is still Bradley James’ voice going all squeaky as he said, “I feel GREAT!”
LOL that shot of the Castle. MY BURNING AND CRACKS ARE PASTEDE ON.
Oh Gwen and Gaius. ♥
Merlin saying he wished his dad was like Gaius! AWWW. Nobody will ever be a better father!
I loved the little scene between Arthur and Merlin there. Particularly Arthur managing to articulate that he likes Merlin, and poking him in the lower back with a terribly Freudian stick ;)
I pray Daddy gets killed off by the end of the episode! Still, it’s nice to see Merlin happy. Even if he DOES know what it is to have a father! Well, in the sense of a father-figure for you in your early twenties, which is all Belinor can offer at this point anyway.
*sighs* Oh, whatever... it’s nice seeing Colin Morgan all dewey-eyed and grinning, anyway.
...And now he is sad! I feel a bit guilty for praying Dad would be offed, but whatever. Merlin having to hide his pain from Arthur is sweet, delicious angst, especially alongside Arthur being so worried for Camelot without knowing there’s hope.
OH ARTHUR. SO MUCH LOVE. I AM HELPLESSLY EMOTIONALLY MANIPULATED BY THE RISING MUSIC AND THE ROUND TABLE IMAGERY. ONCE AND FUTURE KING! *flails like she’s about to take off*
This has been a really excellent episode for Arthur/Merlin shippers, hasn’t it? Love it.
Is anyone ever going to give Merlin chainmail pre-battle? Ever?
Okay, so the Mustafa voiceover was a little bit cringey, but that scene rocked my socks. Hyper Arthur laughing ftw.
Slow-mo: terribly cheesy, but it worked for me because of “I saw what you will become.” It was King Arthur and Merlin coming back to Camelot, having defended it together with their particular strengths, and having Guinevere run to meet them really made me smile :) Plus Uther’s little Relief Face moment was cute.
Excellent final two episodes, this series had! MUCH LOVE. I am all emotional and looking forward to what comes next, which is the purpose of such things :D
