I have had no internet for three days! Because my family was in Geneva, and Smudgecat and I couldn’t fix it. Why were they in Geneva, you ask?

Because they’re probably moving there – Mum, Dad and Youngest Sister, at any rate. Dad’s been offered a job in Geneva that he’ll almost certainly take (he has a Florentine option but likes it less). That means he’ll work there from this September, while Middle Sister starts uni. Youngest Sister, currently in Year 10, will finish her GCSEs here. Then she and Mum will move to Geneva, and she’ll do the IB at one of the international schools. A small flat will be kept here, but the Parental Bosom will become a buxom Swiss one from September 2011.

So... yes. A change! Something I almost always approve of. It's going to be odd though, and I worry a little about Youngest Sister.

The dark age of internet-lackage has been a tragic, fallow time. But on the plus side, I watched the new Doctor Who episodes twice over.

I love Eleven. Matt Smith did the whole thing wonderfully – the suggestions of Ten’s characterisation slowly melting away as Eleven became truly himself, the physical comedy, the intelligence. I like Eleven a lot; kindness to children, and appreciation of fairy tales, are two things that really stir my affections. I loved Amelia Pond, and I loved the scenes between her and Eleven.

‘Amelia Pond’ really is a fairy-tale name. More than that, it’s an evocation of a particular kind of British fantasy – it’s the name of a girl from The Wolves of Willoughby Chase or Tom’s Midnight Garden, a girl who of course has the Scottish accent and red hair, and scarlet welly boots, and lives in an English village.

Moffat really did a fantastic, shameless job at tugging at all those associations and heartstrings to make things feel familiar and loved – Who references, but also very specific cultural associations. I laughed like a drain at “twenty minutes to save the world, and I’ve got a post office. And it’s shut.” – Funny all by itself, but especially if you’ve experienced the English village approach to commercialism.

Amy Pond is wonderful; she’s spirited in a very specific way, that doesn’t make me irritable because I feel there’s an effort to make her Feisty. (I hate and despise the word feisty.) She kept biting her psychiatrists! She tells that old man to go and have coffee! She’s A DOCTOR FAN WHO HONOURED HIM WITH ARTS AND CRAFTS. *bursts into tears* She’s one of us!

Also, oh God the stockings. And the hair, and the lips, and the eyes, and the voice. And then we’re right back to the legs.

JEFF WHO NEEDS TO GET A GIRLFRIEND. His Gran! “And a nun?” And Rory! “Actual aliens. Deadly aliens. Aliens... of death.” He was so charming! And oh God, I loved Amy so hard for her unblushing, pursed-lips appreciation of naked!Doctor.

I firmly believe the Doctor’s only forever-love is the TARDIS. Battered and bruised she may be, but she sticks with him through everything. So his calling her a “sexy thing” and whispering “thanks dear” made me nearly STRAIN something through squee. SHE’S A GOOD WIFE. Much better than John Hart.

Oh, and the clicking to open her – what a fun little reference to River Song! Get the Doctor evolving!

It was emotionally manipulative, but brilliant, to see all ten Doctors who came before, and have Eleven stepping through them to take his place at the fore. *happy sigh* I think this series might well be a fun one, with gargoyle hottie Eleven and kissogram Amy and Englishness-pwning!Moffat running the show. I can’t wait.

Yep - currently they live in a small city, half an hour by train from King's Cross. I'm there right now, as it happens. :) My Dad's worked at the LSE for yonks, though, and he's ready for a change. (LSE = London School of Economics).

Wow Geneva is a pretty big change! But it should be good.

I did love 11. I tried to hate him-and I did spend most of the first episode criticising him minutely but the writing kind of clinched it as being awesome. The series of all the doctors really made it work for me. He may not know who he is but he knows where he came from.

I also love Amelia Pond. I think we've already seen that she's got initiative (handcuffing 11 and pretending to radio for backup) so she's smart, sassy and checked out the Doctor naked. My kind of girl :P

I'm a little concrend that every episode will be 'omg-must-save-the-world' but I'm loving Mofffat so far.

You should also know apon seeing your icon for this post I actually acted out a real life *SPORFLE* of glee.

I think so.

HEE. It never occurred to me to try to hate him, and I'm really tickled by this whole idea. The series of the doctors was totally aimed at fans - we know where we came from, we won't forget.

Amy is AWESOME. I like that she's so resourceful, and the reveal that she's a kissogram!! My kind of girl too. In several senses of the word.

YAY SPORFLE. Feel free to gack - it's by [profile] redcharlach.

:D Yay!

I refuse to let go of my very Ten default icon, because it is My Favrit Forever. But Eleven and Amy are a lot of fun.

GRR. I was all, "huzzah, I shall see you this holiday!" and then there was Eastercon, Norwich, weekend with friends, internet dead, seeing family. *sighs*

I'm hoping to come back for a weekend in a fortnight or so - once I have plans, I shall message you and get organised AHEAD OF TIME. It will rock.
