Merlin 109: Excalibur

Hello there, Nimueh. Your cleavage is looking well.

Merlin 109: Daddy Issues and Drugs

Aww, Merlin looked so proud of Arthur when he was made Crown Prince!

...I can’t stop noticing how perfectly the red of Arthur’s lips complements the red of his cloak. I want that lipstick, damnit.

Gwen agrees with me that Merlin’s proud of Arthur and it’s adorable. HA.

Ohh, that guy just threw down his gauntlet! Watcha gonna do, Arthur? Watcha gonna do? Watcha gonna do when they come for you?

...Yeah, I don’t even know.

That was ominous. I reckon this is a take-off of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I hope mysteriously-Irish-accented-despite-his-typically-Welsh-name!Owain survives. Seriously, WHERE are all the Irish people in this coming from?

Oooh, mystery. Hopefully the Black Knight was a wizard and he’s going to smash up Uther.

:D Never letting the impending death distract from the adolescent soap opera, that’s my Merlin.

...Sir Pellinore? Sir Pellinore? The silly bloke who got lost in the woods for twenty years in The Once and Future King? He can’t die! Even if he’s now apparently a buff young bloke with excellent muscles!

Nice to Uther being protective of Arthur for once.

Oh for goodness’ sake, Gaius. When it’s just a gust of wind, it’s never just a gust of wind.

I was wrong! 0.0

Oh, Pellinore’s dead. Sadface. Kinda makes sense – he’s the reason Arthur gets Excalibur in the original legend.

All this ‘no mortal weapon can stop him’ makes me keep expecting to see Buffy run in with a rocket launcher.

Jesus, Arthur just threatened Merlin with his sword! It was pretty sexy.

LOL that sword changed lengths like three times in that scene.

And all is revealed! Poor Arthur – Uther doesn’t think his birth was worth his wife’s death, even after years to recover from it and see his son grow up. Kind of giggled at Michelle Ryan’s delivery – every line was so overwraught.

Uther in Gaius’ territory! That’s new. And so is self-sacrificing!Uther.

“This sword could do great evil in the wrong hands.” The wrong hands being Uther’s, one assumes.

Interesting definition of ‘forged’ there, scriptwriters. And by ‘interesting’ I mean wrong.

...Gaius drugged Arthur?! Why, oh why, couldn’t it have been done by someone I can think of in a sexual way?

Argh Uther is stealing Excalibur! TAKE YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF IT.

LOL even Uther ships it.

Uther’s pretty spry for an old guy.

Nimueh’s cloak cannot contain the boobies!

AWW pretty blond boy gets some resolution to his daddy issues! That never happens! I’m so pleased!

LOL, Arthur is such a teenage boy. Big emotional moment with father, shining eyes, then it’s all coughing and “I heard you fought pretty well.” And adorable play-fighting.

GAIUS IS THE BEST. And a much better father than Uther. Seriously, his relationship with Merlin is probably my favourite thing about this programme.

Merlin’s in trouble.

So the sword’s in a lake. Well, that neatly gets round this to allow Arthur to be given Excalibur in the usual way.

STOP TEASING US ‘THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES’, WE ALL KNOW ARTHUR’S NOT GOING TO FIND OUT IN THE NEXT EPISODE.
