Merlin 211: The Witch's Quickening
FIGHT SCENE!
Hey there, Mordred. You know, you and Tom Riddle would probably really get along. And it might do you both some good to make a friend.
Excitingly, these bandits have disguised themselves instead of showing up in a BLACK HOODED CLOAK. And they have a hot girl bandit.
However, dude bandit is clearly a dick. Killing poor, babyfaced Soldier Number Five in painful fashion, now the guards...
This episode definitely gets starting-with-action points. Also points for Arthur wallslamming Merlin! And we’ve had two of our principals looking pretty in their beds already. I remember why I like this programme!
“I wish to walk free and without fear.” *EYEROLL* Since you’re all about the painful murdering, that is probably going to be hard. Plus you talk in platitudes.
Aww, from Merlin’s little grin at Arthur’s approval to yelling in sixty seconds.
OMG Mordred and Merlin on either side of the door is REALLY CREEPY.
A dark green, hooded cloak! Clearly Morgana is being seduced by the dark side. Also, seriously, saving little boy from soldiers /= giving fighters what they need to bring down Camelot.
LOL, apparently Uther thought it was important that the crystal be comfortable. Why the velvet cushion?
What? Where are the bells coming from, and how do Arthur and the others know where to go?

Awww, brief charming moment like before Morgana went rather suddenly evil. She’s never been ruthless, so seeing this is making me rather sad and irritated, even if they’re making attempts at explanation.
Also Morgana’s been in fights before, Alvar, and she rocks. Patronising shit.

MERLIN: I like you more than it! I promise! ...Even if you’ve been a dickhead this episode.
I’m sure it’ll be fine! If Lord of the Rings taught us anything, it’s that homoerotic campfire scenes are the best defence against evil magical artifacts!
Love Uther making his Evil King faces. He really is a dreadful despot, however much I think Alvarr is getting waaaay too much moral ambiguity given to him by the narrative.
MORGANA: His only crime was to defy you!
...No, no I feel like the killing and stealing and plotting to kill was also criminal. I mean I get civil disobedience in the face of unfair laws, but he did in fact commit treason.
That said, the Uther/Morgana scene in the throne room? I thought that rocked. “From this day forward I disown you” actually suggested Katie McGrath has some talent beyond the visual.
Loved Uther nailing his colours to the mast in response to Morgana. And seeing Colin Morgan camp it up because of MAGICAL STUFFS is always fun :)
