RL and the Draco Awards
I’m off to Norwich Pride this weekend! I’m really looking forward to it. The march will be short, sadly – it’s had to be cut because we need a police presence due to rather unpleasant letters from Christian protestors, and there are only so many bobbies free on a Saturday to keep an eye on us! But there’s gonna be a picnic, and lectures, and PARTYING ALL NIGHT in the evening. :DDDD I’m especially looking forward to it because even though quite a few of my friends won’t be able to make it, some will. I haven’t seen most of them in a month and I miss them all madly. I’m going to have to try hard at the picnic to actually talk to everybody and be welcoming and social, instead of sitting with my very bestest friends having a cuddle.
The TV has been cutting out a lot, apparently – I don’t watch it much – and the parentals decided to replace it. This all made sense to me. Only they’ve replaced it with a FUCKING MASSIVE flatscreen. I am completely weirded out by this rather uncharacteristic decision, and when I went to check it out I just sort of looked at the screen and thought it was weird seeing such big faces.
I’m sure I’ll get used to it, it’s just odd. Previous to this we had a rather elderly telly with a screen about a third bigger than my laptop’s screen. And frankly, I tend to judge people with enormous flatscreens for their conspicuous consumption. :S Less so these days, because more people have them, but still.
Back to the happiness:
dracoawards has opened voting on its Harry/Draco nominations! You can vote for Best Romance and Best Erotic Fiction here, and for Best Artwork, Best Drabble or Ficlet, Best Long Fiction, Best Angst or Dramatic Fiction, and Best Mystery or Adventure here. As with Smutastic seconding, you can vote for as many fics as you want.
I know a lot of my flist feel ambivalent at best about fandom awards, which I quite understand. (My happy imperviousness makes me indifferent and happy about their existence by turns, but that is a measure of my peculiarities in my approach to such things rather than an argument for the awesomeness of fandom awards in general.) But I definitely recommend following the links as a rec list if nothing else. There is some truly fantastic stuff nominated there – as there would be, of course! Harry/Draco is such a big ship, with such talented authors, and the mix of really old-school fic (there’s one from 2003) versus stuff posted in the last month is really cool.
*coughs* Having said all that, this is embarrassing...
TwoofmyficswerenominatedandIwouldreallyappreciateitifyouvotedforthem.
Red, Blue, Green, Yellow: Spanking In Four Parties was nominated for Best Erotic Fiction.
Screwed Blue was nominated for Best Drabble or Ficlet.
If either of them win it will be a SCANDAL, but new people reading those fics would certainly make me very happy. :)
Now back to working out if I can be in my university library at midnight on Friday, so I may have internet access when sign-ups open for the H/D LDWS...

1- that you were so into spanking (I need to do a picture for you)
2- that I was silly enough to think that the UK was a great big love-zone where Christians loved and cuddled GLBT people. I am inclined to think that everything's better over there, I guess.

2. :) Well, actually, we're very lucky here. The Church of England has gay clergy, and gay bishops will come sooner rather than later (there's voting on it, and the laity, clergy and bishops all voted in favour). I went to a non-denominational Christian secondary school and no teacher ever said publically that homosexuality was bad.
But we do have plenty of homophobic Christians - evangelicals are a very vocal minority in the CoE, and there're Catholics etc of course.
Sorry, I tend to want to talk about this lots - my family is very much enmeshed in the Church of England and there's lots of turmoil in the Anglican church about this right now!

LMAO. Well, you're quite welcome to come over with the guys and play on the PS2. I will sit happily and be all, 'it's nice that you enjoy the shooting, guys. Honest.'
